Corrective Exercise is a series of assessments and movement techniques designed to address muscular imbalances and help improve movement quality.
The human body has evolved into a form that is structurally balanced when standing upright. In this position, all of our bones, joints, and connective tissues are ideally aligned and balanced.
Throughout our lives, we develop movement imbalances and compensations that lead to unhealthy movement patterns. These patterns can create discomfort, increase wear and tear, and interfere with proper movement. Participating in sports can expose an athlete’s body to positions susceptible to developing (and exacerbating) such imbalances and movement patterns.
Corrective Exercise is a series of assessment and movement techniques that address these unhealthy patterns and help improve movement quality. They reduce overall risk of injury (from wear and tear) and improve athletic performance. Additionally, these improvements lead to improved function in activities of daily life.
The exercise programming includes training flexibility, mobility, balance, muscular endurance and strength, and cardiovascular development all while paying specific attention to making advancements in movement quality. As movement patterns continue to improve, training will continue to advance and provide you with further improvements in fitness and athletic performance.
Meet with me, Anthony Ferraresi, to learn about how corrective exercise and a strength and conditioning program can reduce injury risk, build resilience, and maximize performance and longevity in sports. On this call, we will discuss your priorities, goals, and motivations. We will determine whether or not we are a good fit to work together.
If we determine that there is a fit, we will schedule a time to complete movement and posture assessments. The assessments will help me determine which movement patterns can be improved and which movement systems need to be addressed. I will then use this information to develop an individualized strength and conditioning program for you. Dependent on the assessment, you may or may not need to include corrective exercise.
We will meet regularly to work one-on-one. I will guide you through the program, teach you how to safely and effectively perform the exercises, and explain the "why" behind everything we do. The training will involve targeting movement compensations through improving flexibility, mobility, stability, and strength where needed. And most importantly, we will integrate all of this be training functional movement patterns.
As you consistently use Corrective Exercise, movement patterns will improve. Risk of injury will be reduced. You will build resilience. And athletic performance and fitness levels will continue to improve.
Movement assessments take anywhere between 30-60 minutes.
Yes, Corrective Exercise techniques can and will reduce or eliminate pain and discomfort. However, they are not meant to diagnose or treat injury. If I suspect that you may have an injury in need of medical assistance, I will refer you to an appropriate physician and physical therapist.
Improvements in movement quality can be felt and in seen during a single session with our coach. However, just as is the fact with any sort of training, prolonged and sustained improvements can only be realized with consistent and regular training over a period of weeks and months. I will teach you how to incorporate Corrective Exercise into your warmups and cool downs as a means to continue and maintain improvements in movement quality.
Yes, Corrective Exercise programs can and should be incorporated into your regular training schedule.
Not everyone will show muscular imbalances that need to be addressed with Corrective Exercise. If, after an assessment, I determine that you do not need targeted Corrective Exercise, I can develop a more traditional strength and conditioning training program for you.
